"The Cross"
April 1, 2001
Doyle Barnett
Pastor Doyle related how the Lord has really brought his
attention to scriptures that are repeated in the Word.
Matthew 10:38-39
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after
me, is not worthy of me. [39] He that findeth his life
shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake
shall find it.
Matthew 16:24-25
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will
come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross,
and follow me. [25] For whosoever will save his life shall
lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall
find it.
Luke 9:23-24
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and
follow me. [24] For whosoever will save his life shall lose
it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same
shall save it.
Luke 14:27
And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after
me, cannot be my disciple.
We need to remember these words of the Lord. They must be
very important since they are repeated so many times!!
In II Timothy the word says:
2 Tim. 3:1-5
This know also, that in the last days perilous times
shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves,
covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to
parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection,
trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce,
despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady,
highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of
God;[5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power
thereof: from such turn away.
We need to practice the way of the cross.
It is a way of SELF-DENIAL, SUFFERING, and DEATH TO SELF!!
There is power in suffering. So we don't want to always be
asking to be delivered from suffering. If we do, we will
not be perfected.
Victorious living is victory over the tests, trials, and
temptations through the faith in Him and His delivering power.
This is the same way Jesus was victorious--through faith in
God. We are delivered by..."not MY will, but THY will."
