"Blessed Are the Peacemakers"
August 20, 2000

Matthew 5:4--"Blessed are the peacemakers;for they shall be called the children of God."

James 3:2-18 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. [3] Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. [4] Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. [5] Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! [6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. [7] For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: [8] But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. [9] Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. [10] Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. [11] Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? [12] Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. [13] Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. [14] But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. [15] This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. [16] For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. [17] But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. [18] And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Our zeal needs to be according to knowledge! To sow peace we have to lay down our life.

Ephes. 2:13-17 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. [14] For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; [15] Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; [16] And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: [17] And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Jesus is our peace. He came to preach peace between God and man through His shed blood.

We need to realize that our words are very powerful!

God's wisdom is peaceable, but we don't want to compromise our principles to keep peace. We should not make haste in our actions, but discern what our motives are in what we are thinking about doing.

Keeping peace or being a peacemaker shows that we are God's child.

Peace is a fruit of the Spirit. If we are walking in God's love, we will exemplify peace to those around us!

John 14:27 PEACE I leave with you, my PEACE I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Peace from God eliminates fear!

Matt. 5:25 says that we are to agree with our adversary when we are in the way with him. Don't be cantankerous. Don't cast your pearls before swine. Be slow to speak, slow to anger.

Rom.14:19--follow things taht cause peace

II Tim. 2:23--foolish and unlearned questions avoid. These gender or cause strife!!

Rom. 8:5-7--To be spiritually minded is LIFE and PEACE!! The carnal mind is enmity with God. Jesus slew this enmity (Eph.2:16) to enable us to walk in the Spirit and keep PEACE!

Phil. 4:5-8--God gives us peace that passes understanding. When we think on the right things we have peace. (Is.26:3--Thou wilt keep him in perfect PEACE whose MIND is STAYED on Thee!)

Psalm 34:11-14--Seek peace and pursue it!

Is.57:18-21--I create the fruit of the lips; peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him that is near.

II Cor. 13:11--live in peace.

I Tim. 2:2--Pray for those in authority, that we may lead quiet and PEACEABLE lives.

I Pet. 3:4--wives are to have a meek and quiet spirit--not a contentious, strife= causing spirit!

Rom. 12:18--If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men!! We can do it because God has put it in us!!
