Luke 5:1-11 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, [2] And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. [3] And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. [4] Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. [5] And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. [6] And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. [7] And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. [8] When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. [9] For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: [10] And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. [11] And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

Jesus getting into Peter, James, and John's boat is like Him coming into our life. He comes in and gradually unfolds His plan in our lives.... He challenges us continually to give Him complete control.

God wants us to trust Him in all areas of our lives.... especially in the areas where we are "confident in ourselves." We struggle to give Him control in areas in which we are comfortable, secure, or just selfish. We need to recognize these areas and relinquish our control. We need to realize that we need the supernatural ability that only God can give.

Many times we limit God because we have "been there; done that!" Some things don't make "sense" to us. But God is not natural---He is supernatural. That means His ways are NOT our ways!

Our dead works limit us! We are to repent of dead works. That way we will not have memories of times of failure and will still be able to believe that God will and can do anything. If we have memories of failures (dead works) this causes us not to listen to the Holy Spirit.

We need to watch out for becoming frustrated. This happens when we feel like we have done something and gotten no results.

Jesus makes requests of us to see how we will respond--to see if we will trust Him or not. Consistent obedience produces consistent results.

God's Word is alive and profitable. It is comprehensive--it will meet every kind of need. And it completely equips us for life and ministry.

Ezra 7:10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

Ezra prepared his heart to approach God's Word. He prepared to practice and to share what He learned. We prepare ourselves by remaining tender and open to the Lord as we study His Word.

What convictions should I have concerning the Bible?

Even when I don't understand it, I will trust what God said
Even if it seems illogical, I will obey what God says
While human opinions may vary, God's Word is right on every subject
