"What if Jesus Were to Become You?"
November 5,2000
Doyle Barnett

What would be different in your life, if Jesus were to become you? If you retained your body, but your mind and spirit were just like Jesus, what would be different?

Would you still be doing what you are doing?

We are changed into His image from glory to glory by His Spirit!

When we look at Him, we become Him! (2 Cor.3:18)

When we submit to Him, He changes us into His image.

We need commitment---we need to forgive. Jesus was committed and walked in total forgiveness. When we are not committed, we cease to change. Likewise, when we do not forgive, we cease to change.

When we follow after the Spirit, then and only then, can we touch others' lives, and help them.

In John 13:7, we see the story of Jesus washing the disciples' feet. In Jesus' day, the lowliest servant was the one that washed the guest's feet. Jesus showed by this example, that if we are to be great in His kingdom, we are to be the greatest servant (or serve the most).

When Jesus washed the disciples' feet, He was doing more than removing dirt; He was removing DOUBT.

Our hands were made by God, to touch other people, not to serve ourselves. Jesus used his hands to always serve others.

In Matthew 8:1-4, the leper came to Jesus to be healed. Before Jesus healed him, He TOUCHED him. This is very significant! A leper was considered unclean, and if he ever went out in public, he was supposed to cry out, "Unclean! Unclean!", so that everyone would know to stay away from him. So in Jesus touching him, he was showing that He loved this man with leprousy. When we have compassion on others, their "condition" will not "turn us off", but we will rather know that we have what they need and freely give it to them!
