"Brokenness"
October 29, 2000

Psalm 126:5-6 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. [6] He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

What hinders brokenness in our lives?

1) The fast pace of life itself! When we are too busy we don't take the time to be touched with others' weaknesses. We are too wrapped up in what we are doing!

2)Unwilling to be vulnerable. We may have things that have wounded us or hurt us in some way, and we erect walls that to keep from being hurt again. But we are also unable to minister to others or even care about others because of these walls!

3)Immaturity. We are just too centered on ourselves to be concerned with any one else. Selfishness!

4)Isolation from the world. Matthew 9:35-36 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. [36] But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

We have to GO, SEE, and then we will be MOVED WITH COMPASSION.

5)Misplaced Priorities. We are to set our affection on things above, and to lay up our treasure in heaven. Men's souls are to be our number one priority.

John Wesley said, "Your may be eloquent, you may be winsome, you may be a good financier, yes, and you may be in great demand, but if you do not win souls you are a failure. You are not called to do this or that, but to win souls."

6)Our needs are met. Many times when we are satisfied and our needs are met, then we are uncaring of others' needs. We become like the lukewarm church (Laodecea) in Revelation, where we THINK we have need of nothing, but in realily, we are in really bad shape! NO PAIN---NO CHANGE!!!

7)Our vision is narrow. We need to broaden our vision. "Where there is no vision; the people perish!" You only see what you are prepared to see. We need to prepare to see the hurts of others, the needs of others, then we will see and be moved with compassion. We need to see what the Lord sees.

8)We avoid painful situations. When we don't have our eyes focused on helping others, we tend to avoid things that are painful. We need to focus on the fact that the Lord has delivered us, and that now we have deliverance to offer anyone in the name of Jesus!

9)We make excuses. We avoid the pain by making excuses, because we don't want to change. We think if we ignore the pain, the situation will just go away. NO PAIN---NO CHANGE!!

10)We ignore the prompting of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit prompts us, it is to do something about a situation. We must realize that we have received from the Lord freely, so we can freely give. And not only can we give, but we are commanded to give!! FREELY!!

If we will watch out for the pitfalls, then we will be like the Lord: we will GO, we will SEE, and we will be MOVED WITH COMPASSION!
