"Blessed Are You When Men Revile You and Persecute You"
September 10, 2000
Doyle Barnett

Matthew 5:11-12 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. [12] Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Rev. 21:1-7 And I saw a NEW heaven and a NEW earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. [2] And I John saw the holy city, NEW Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. [4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. [5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things NEW. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. [6] And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto HIM that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. [7] He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Pastor Doyle related how heaven is a NEW relationship. Old things are gone and God has made all things NEW.

We have a NEW place to live, AND we have a NEW way to live! The new place, of course, is heaven. The new way, is one of unity and comfort (He will wipe away ALL tears from our eyes).

The NEW Jerusalem is likened to a BRIDE adorned for her HUSBAND. This relationship is demonstrated through preparation. A bride prepares for her husband with time, money, planning, and learning. A bride doesn't wait till she is all grown up to begin preparing. She begins from the time of youth. This relationship cost God His only Son and it costs us our whole life!

The second way this relationship is demonstrated is through purity. Jesus has cleansed our garments. He has given us His righteousness. We keep ourselves unspotted from the world ( James 1:27) by giving our will over to Him. Every day! We have the hope of being with Him and through this hope we purify ourselves. (I John 3:3).

This relationship is demonstrated by being in His presence. In His presence there is fullness of joy.

This relationship is demonstrated by the promise. Committment FOREVER!!

Hebrews 6:17-19 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: [18] That by TWO IMMUTABLE things, in which it was IMPOSSIBLE for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the HOPE set before us: [19] Which hope we have as an ANCHOR of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

God could not lie, and His promise is sure!

In verse 6 of Revelation 21, Jesus says that he will give to HIM that is athirst. He doesn't say to them. This is a PERSONAL relationship. God deals with us as individuals. He gives WATER that SATISFIES, STRENGTH that is FAITHFUL and STRONG, and the RELATIONSHIP of a SON that is SAFE and SECURE!
