Can You Trust God?
September 24,2000
Doyle Barnett

Proverbs 3:1-10 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: [2] For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. [3] Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: [4] So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. [5] Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. [7] Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. [8] It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. [9] Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: [10] So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

We need to trust in the Lord with ALL our heart! Completely and totally. We need to judge ourselves as to whether there is any area in which we are really trusting ourselves, our ability, and not God's.

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Pastor Doyle related the poem, "Footprints in the Sand", at this point, emphasizing the part where, when there were only one set of footprints that was when Jesus was carrying us, not that He had abandoned us!

Psalm 56:4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Many times we have fears that we do not realize that we have. The Lord can reveal these to us, so we can let Him deliver us from those. Psalm 34:4 says he delivers us from ALL our fears!! Praise God!!

1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

The victory that overcomes is our faith. Complete trust that God will always come through for us, and will never let us down!

God can not lie, and His promise is sure!

One of the principle tests of our trust comes in times of plenty. We need to be sure we are looking to God for everything even when we are NOT in need!--even when things are not going the way we think they should. Job said, "Though He slay me, yet will I TRUST Him!"

Proverbs 18:10-11 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. [11] The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

The righteous man knows he needs God at all times. The rich man trusts in his ability, his riches. God will never fail. Riches will fail!

God is El Shaddai, the God who is more that enough!! At ALL times!!
