"We Need the Holy Spirit"
September 3, 2000
Kenny Howe

Brother Howe related how the Lord had awaken him two times on consecutive nights to give him the message for our church this Sunday morning.

The Lord told him that many churches have programs and everything exalted except Jesus. We need to remember to listen to the Holy Spirit; to covet hearing His plan for each time we gather, so He will be there in our midst.

He said too many churches are in the fire of "yesterday" and are wallowing around in a pile of ashes, instead of being in the fire TODAY!!

He related how the Ephesians in Chapter 17 of Acts had altars built to many gods, but in case they had left a god out, they made an altar to the "UNKNOWN GOD". Paul used this as a base to teach them about the one true God.

He asked us, "How many times do we come to church and are never changed?"

"Do we expect God to do something in us every time we come together?"

Many times we do not get something when we come to church because we come out of a sense of obligation or duty. But when we always recognize that we are needy, then God can help us to be conformed into the image of His son.

Sunday Evening--Dr. Hope--Job

Satan cannot hurt us without God's permission

And if God allows him to, be sure that God has a plan for your good.

Some of us are afraid of what God may call us to do, so we hold back. God wants ALL of us--He wants US to GIVE all to Him.

Job 23:10--purified as gold in the fire.

God allows the heat to be applied to us to get rid of impurities.

Deut. 32:11-12 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: [12] So the Lord alone did lead him...

Dr. Hope related how the mother eagle makes the nest uncomfortable for the young eaglet so that they have to jump out. She swoops down and catches them till they get the picture that they need to learn to fly. When they do they discover the wonder of flight! This is they way we are many times when the Lord is trying to get us "out of the nest". We are squawking and complaining, but then we discover that the Lord is right there to swoop down and catch us if need be, but when we decide to go for it, we find the wonder of flying with Him!

God is always with us, no matter where we go, no matter what we FEEL!

Our feelings will change. Many times we will feel like God has forsaken us, but He is standing right there waiting for us to grow up a little and stretch our "muscles" a little. We simply need to KNOW that God is true and never leaves us. This will give us the confidence to do all He asks us.
