"David Desired God's Presence"
February 13, 2000

Text: I Chronicles 13

I Kings 8:10-11

"And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filed the house of the Lord."

In I Chronicles 13:3, David said,"let us bring again the ark of our God to us."

During Saul's reign the ark had been confiscated by the Philistines, and Saul had had no desire to retrieve it.

On the other hand, David had a great desire to go up and get the ark. We need to have the same desire for God's presence.

After Uzza was slain for touching the ark, David left it in the house of Obed-edom for three months. During this time he returned to Jerusalem and prepared a place for the ark (Chapter 15)

The Lord is still trying to tell us that we need to prepare a place for Him to come and dwell. He has made the way to dwell in us through Jesus, but we have to allow him room in us. He is "knocking" at our door. We have to open it, though, and let him in.

Pastor Doyle also spoke of the woman who prepared a room in which Elisha could stay as he traveled through that part of the country. She WANTED to prepare the room.

But the woman didn't stop with the desire to prepare the room. She DID something about it!

In the same way, we must not just stop with the desire to prepare a "room" for the Lord, but DO something about that desire. Make a "room"!!

Just like this woman, we have to put aside other things in order for the "room" to be prepared.

Isaiah speaks of a "way of holiness" in Chapter 35, verse 8. This is what God has done inside us--made a highway of holiness through the blood of Jesus.

As we make a "room" for the Lord, He will come in and fill us with His glory, just as the temple was filled with the glory of the Lord.
