"Blessed Are They Who Mourn"
July 16,2000
Doyle Barnett

Matthew 5:3--"Blessed are they who mourn; for they shall be comforted."

Ps. 4:3--The Lord has set apart him that is godly and will hear him when he cries.

Ps.23:4-- His rod and his staff comforts us. The rod is used for chastening. This tells us that the Lord loves us. "Whom the Lord loves, He chastens, as the father, the son in whom he delights."

Ps.71:21-- Increase my greatness and comfort me on every side.

Ps. 119:50--This is my comfort in my affliction for Thy Word hath quickened me.

Isaiah 57:15-18 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. [16] For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made. [17] For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. [18] I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners.

Psalm 80:14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

Ps.50:15--Call upon me in the day of trouble, and I will deliver thee and we will glorify Him. IICor.1:3--God of all COMFORT and enables us to comfort others with the comfort we have received.

Luke 18:9-14 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: [10] Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. [11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. [12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. [13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Need to ask ourselves if we have gotten to the point where we have ceased from our own works.

Hebrews 4:8-11 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. [9] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. [10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. [11] Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

2 Cor. 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Earthen vessels are easily broken--weak--frail.

Hebrews 4:14-15 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. [15] For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

Jesus is touched by the feelings of our weaknesses. When we know we are weak, then He can come in and help us and give us His strength; His ability.
