"The House God is Building"

March 5, 2000

Text: Acts 15:16-17

Acts 15:16-17 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: [17] That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

David erected this tabernacle to house the ark of the covenant until the temple could be built. The Tabernacle of David was not elaborate. The ark was placed right in the middle of the tabernacle. The material it was made of was perishable leather; non-pretentious.

Song of Solomon 5:2-6 I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled: for my head is filled with dew, and my locks with the drops of the night. [3] I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?[4] My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him. [5] I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock.[6] I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone:my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

Here we see a picture of the bride-to-be getting ready for sleep. She has washed her feet and taken off her robe. Then her beloved comes knocking at the door. But she doesn't come right away. When she does decide to finally open the door, which she has locked, he is gone!

We need to discern the time of our visitation. We need to open the door while the Lord (bridegroom) is knocking. If we wait, we could miss the "hour of our visitation."

In this passage of scripture, the bride-to-be went out finally, and she could even smell the fragrance of the cologne that her bridegroom was wearing. But she missed HIM!

Pastor Doyle likened the fragrance to the previous moves of God. All the things God has done in the church as restorative moves are fragrances of Him. In each of these moves the bride had to go out to the bridegroom. She had to "open the door" to HIM.

We have the key. We have to let him in for what He desires to do today!

Let us not be like the Laodicean church in Revelation 3, where they were deceived into thinking they were rich and clothed and had need of nothing, but were really poor, blind, naked and miserable!!

The Lord was standing at the door and knocking. He wants to come in and fellow ship with us. But we have to open the door and let him in!

Philip. 3:7-10 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. [8] Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may WIN Christ, [9] And be found in him, not having MINE OWN righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: [10] That I may KNOW him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

We know Him by fellowshipping with Him!

In the tabernacle of David there was not a veil separating the ark (presence of God) from the people. God has re-established this through the Lord Jesus Christ. Mark 15:38--And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

The vail was torn from the top to the bottom, signifying that GOD himself did away with it!! Praise God!!

Hebrews 6:18-20 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the HOPE set before us: [19] Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; [20] Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Jesus entered within the veil as the first born among many brethren (us), and we are to go in now clothed with HIM!; able to stand in God's presence and commune openly and freely with Him.

God has re-built the tabernacle of David in Christ! We just need to belive in Him so we can see His glory!

John 11:40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

We need to only believe--then we will see the glory of God!!
